COVID-19: Safety Tips & Precautions

People all over the world are grappling with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. While some of us can stay home, others will need to go out to work during these challenging times. As a family, you can focus on evaluating your home and safety procedures, and take action to fine-tune your daily life to ensure you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy.

Here are some simple safety tips and precautions from Al Nahdi Online to help keep your family safe from coronavirus COVID-19:

Hand Hygiene: Make sure to get your family members to wash their hands with a good quality hand soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds every time they enter your home. You can engage the kids at home to do this by making them wash and scrub their hands for the length of time it takes to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice. Use a good hand sanitizer when out and about.

Disinfect High-Touch Areas: Wear disposable gloves or a pair of dedicated, reusable household cleaning gloves while cleaning high-touch surfaces and items in your home – such as doorknobs, electrical plug point & light switches, TV & AC remote controls, landline & mobile phones, touch screens, keyboards, clothes hampers, faucets, sinks, toilets, countertops, etc., – with a high-grade disinfectant or sanitizing spray that contains 70% alcohol in them. Check out our range of household disinfectants and sanitizing sprays, in-store and online.

Change & Wash Your Clothes: Take off your clothes when you get home and take a hot shower immediately. Place your dirty clothing in a dedicated bag or hamper so you can easily put it into the wash without having to touch soiled items. Washing clothes at 40-60 degrees Celsius with a bleach-based powder or detergent is recommended.

Use Face Mask Appropriately: Make sure you wear medical-grade, disposable face masks every time you head out to run some errands or for a grocery trip. If you have a reusable face mask, then you must clean it after every use. Put it in the laundry or hand-wash with soap and hot water. Wring it out and air-dry in a well-ventilated area.

Store Away Outerwear and Shoes: When you arrive home from outside, leave your outerwear away from items that belong to you or to your family members. Leave shoes outside, in a garage, or by the door. If you can, keep your outerwear separate from the rest of your family’s belongings.

Wash Crockeries, Cutleries & Dishes: Use hot water and detergent/soap to wash crockeries, cutleries, and dishes. Wash your hands immediately after loading the dishwasher. Wash your hands again before unloading clean items and putting them away. Always store some disposable plates and cutlery at home.

Conduct Health Checks: Take your temperature twice a day with a good thermometer and self-monitor to see if you are feeling feverish. Stay home if you are sick or feel like you are getting sick. Cover your coughs and sneezes. Teach kids at home to use tissues and cough into their elbows rather than their hands.

Isolate Sick Individuals: If someone in your house is sick, have them self-isolate as much as possible. Do not share personal items with them if they are ill. Make sure to stock up on these OTC medications.

Protect the Elderly: Keep the older family members (who are immunocompromised or those with other existing medical problems) safe by adequately limiting their social interactions with outsiders and others in your house who work outdoors, as older adults who are infected with the coronavirus have a high risk of developing severe illness.

Take Adequate Vitamins and Supplements: Being nutrient-deficient can lower your immune function. So, in order to boost your immune system, you must have adequate levels of all nutrients in a well-balanced system. A nutritious diet paired with a daily intake of vitamins and supplements can easily ward off coronavirus.
