Product Description:

  • Caduet is used to treat high blood pressure and high cholesterol (fat in the blood).
  • Caduet can also be used for angina (a certain type of chest pain).
  • Caduet can be used in people who have high blood pressure and coronary heart disease (CHD) or who are at risk of CHD (for example, if they have diabetes, a history of stroke, or small blood vessel disease).
  • In these people, Caduet is used to help reduce the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

How To Use:

  • Take Caduet exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
  • Follow all directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully.
  • They may differ from the information contained in this leaflet.
  • Your doctor may discuss with you the need to be on a diet.
  • Caduet is taken once a day.
  • Your doctor will decide which strength is suitable for you.
  • This will depend on your blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
  • Your doctor may need to adjust your dose after your blood pressure and the fat levels in your blood have been checked.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
  • Do not chew or crush the tablets.

Side Effects:

  • Muscle problems. CADUET can cause serious muscle problems that can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure. You have a higher chance for muscle problems if you are taking certain other medicines with CADUET.
  • Liver problems. Your doctor should do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking CADUET and if you have symptoms of liver problems while you take CADUET.

Call your doctor right away if you have the following symptoms of liver problems:

  • feel tired or weak
  • loss of appetite
  • upper belly pain
  • dark amber colored urine
  • yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes
  • Low blood pressure or dizziness
  • Muscle rigidity, tremor and/or abnormal muscle movement

Warnings and precautions: 

Do not take Caduet if you have an allergy to:

  • any medicine containing amlodipine
  • any medicine containing atorvastatin
  • any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.

Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:

  • Shortness of breath.
  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
    rash, itching or hives on the skin.
  • Do not take Caduet if you have active liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
  • If you are a woman of child-bearing age and are taking this medicine, use a proven method of birth control to avoid pregnancy. 
  • This medicine may affect your unborn developing baby if you take it during pregnancy.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed. 
  • This medicine passes into breast milk and may affect your baby.
  • Do not take Caduet if you are taking the antibiotic fusidic acid which is used to treat infections.
  • Do not take Caduet if you are taking the antivirals, glecaprevir/pibrentasvir for the treatment of Hepatitis C.
  • Do not take this medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack or if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
  • If you are not sure whether you should start taking Caduet, talk to your doctor.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including:

  • All prescription medicines
  • All medicines, vitamins, herbal supplements or natural therapies you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket, naturopath or health food shop.

  • CADUET (amlodipine besylate and atorvastatin calcium) tablets combine the calcium channel blocker amlodipine besylate with the HMG CoA-reductase inhibitor atorvastatin calcium.
