Mycophenolate sodium 360 mg tablet
What Mycophenolate sodium is used for:
- It is an immunosuppressive agent and is indicated in combination with ciclosporin and corticosteroids for the prophylaxis of acute transplant rejection in adult patients receiving allogeneic renal transplants.
Do not take Mycophenolate sodium if:
- Hypersensitivity to Mycophenolate sodium, mycophenolic acid or mycophenolate mofetil.
Warnings & Precautions:
- You might be at increased risk of developing lymphoma or other malignancies of the skin mainly.
- Report any evidence of infection, unexpected bruising, bleeding or any other manifestation of bone marrow depression.
- You should be monitored for blood disorders (e.g. neutropenia or anemia)
- You should be advised that during treatment with MPA vaccinations may be less effective and the use of live attenuated vaccines should be avoided.
- It should be administered with caution in patients with active serious digestive system disease.
- If you have rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption, you should not take this medicine.
- It should be avoided if you have rare hereditary deficiency of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl-transferase (HGPRT) such as Lesch-Nyhan and Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome.
Possible Side Effects:
- Viral, bacterial and fungal infections
- Anxiety
- Hypokalemia
- Hypertension
Other medicines and Mycophenolate sodium:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
- Acyclovir and ganciclovir: their coexistence may compete for tubular secretion and further increase in the concentrations of the two.
- Antacids: decrease the absorption of Mycophenolate sodium.
- Cholestyramine and drugs that bind bile acids: reduce the efficacy of Mycophenolate sodium.
- Oral contraceptives: caution and use additional birth control methods.
How to take Mycophenolate sodium:
- Adult: Recommended dose is 720 mg twice daily.
- It is taken on an empty stomach.
- Take it one hour before or two hours after food intake.
- Mycophenolate sodium tablets and Mycophenolate mofetil capsules should not be used interchangeably.
- Do not crush, chew or cut prior to ingestion. It should be swallowed whole.
How to store Mycophenolate sodium:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F)
- Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture.
