What Choriogonadotropin alfa is used for:

  • Choriogonadotropin alfa is used to treat certain types of infertility in women and help them get pregnant.

Do not take Choriogonadotropin alfa:

  • If you are allergic to the active substance or any other component of this medicine.
  • If you have uncontrolled thyroid or adrenal dysfunction.
  • If you have a brain or pituitary tumor.
  • If you have primary ovarian failure (your ovaries no longer make eggs).
  • If you have an ovarian cyst or an enlarged ovary.
  • If you’re experiencing abnormal vaginal bleeding.
  • If you have an active blood clotting disorders.
  • If you have a sex hormone dependent tumors (ovaries, uterus or breast).
  • If you’ve had a pregnancy outside your womb in the previous 3 months.
  • If you have malformations of sexual organs incompatible with pregnancy.
  • If you are pregnant.
  • If you’re a postmenopausal woman.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Using this medicine increases the risk of developing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), a serious condition where ovaries get enlarged.
  • Taking this medicine may raise the chance of getting pregnant with more than one baby at the same time.
  • Miscarriage might occur when this medicine is used for pregnancy.
  • Pregnancy outside the womb (ectopic pregnancy) might occur with this medicine.
  • If you have or previously had blood clot problems or have family members with these problems, you have a higher risk of having them while taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may interfere with your pregnancy test results for up to 10 days. A false positive result may occur.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Possible side effects:

  • Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; blisters; itching; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Common side effects:

  • Injection site reactions such as redness, pain and swelling
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset
  • Ovarian enlargement
  • Headache
  • Other medicines and Choriogonadotropin alfa
  • No clinically significant medicinal product interactions have been reported with this medicine.

How to take Choriogonadotropin alfa:

  • This product is intended for adults only.
  • Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor.
  • The usual recommended dose is one 250 mcg injection (one syringe) given as a single shot under the skin (subcutaneous).

How to store Choriogonadotropin alfa:

  • Store in a refrigerator at 35°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C).
  • Do not freeze.
  • The solution may be stored at room temperature below 77°F (25°C) but throw away any part not used after 30 days.
  • Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
