What Brexpiprazole is used for:

  • Adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder and treatment of schizophrenia.

Do not use Brexpiprazole :

  • Hypersensitivity to brexpiprazole or any component of the formulation.

Warnings and precautions:

  • have diabetes or high blood sugar or a family history of diabetes or high blood sugar.
  • have high levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, or low levels of HDL cholesterol.
  • have or had seizures (convulsions)
  • have or had low or high blood pressure
  • have or had heart problems or a stroke
  • have or had a low white blood cell count
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • Increased Mortality in Elderly Patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis
  • Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults
  • Cerebrovascular Adverse Reactions Including Stroke in Elderly Patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis
  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
  • Tardive Dyskinesia
  • Metabolic Changes
  • Pathological Gambling and Other Compulsive Behaviors
  • Leukopenia, Neutropenia, and Agranulocytosis
  • Orthostatic Hypotension and Syncope
  • Falls
  • Seizures
  • Body Temperature Dysregulation
  • Dysphagia
  • Potential for Cognitive and Motor Impairment

Possible side effects:

  • Like all medicines, Brexpiprazole can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop throat tightness or swelling of the eyes, face, lips or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing. Stop using the product if you develop hives or itching of the face or body.

Other medicines and Brexpiprazole:

  • Prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
  • BREXPIPRAZOLE and other medicines may affect each other causing possible serious side effects. BREXPIPRAZOLE may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how BREXPIPRAZOLE works.
  • Your healthcare provider can tell you if it is safe to take BREXPIPRAZOLE with your other medicines.
  • Do not start or stop any medicines while taking BREXPIPRAZOLE without talking to your healthcare provider first.
  • Know the medicines you take.
  • Keep a list of your medicines to show your healthcare provider and pharmacist when you get a new medicine.
  • Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors (Examples: itraconazole, clarithromycin, ketoconazole)
  • Strong CYP2D6 Inhibitors (Examples: paroxetine, fluoxetine, quinidine)
  • Strong CYP3A4 Inducers (Examples: rifampin, St. John’s wort)

How to use Brexpiprazole :

  • Adjunctive Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder
  • The recommended starting dosage for Brexpiprazole as adjunctive treatment is 0.5 mg or 1 mg once daily, taken orally with or without food.
  • Titrate to 1 mg once daily, then up to the target dosage of 2 mg once daily.
  • Dosage increases should occur at weekly intervals based on the patient’s clinical response and tolerability.
  • The maximum recommended daily dosage is 3 mg.
  • Periodically reassess to determine the continued need and appropriate dosage for treatment.

Treatment of Schizophrenia:

  • The recommended starting dosage for Brexpiprazole is 1 mg once daily on Days 1 to 4, taken orally with or without food.
  • The recommended target BREXPIPRAZOLE dosage is 2 mg to 4 mg once daily.
  • Titrate to 2 mg once daily on Day 5 through Day 7, then to 4 mg on Day 8 based on the patient’s clinical response and tolerability.
  • The maximum recommended daily dosage is 4 mg.

How to store Brexpiprazole :

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton.
  • The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
  • Store Brexpiprazole tablets at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F); excursions permitted to 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F).
  • Do not use Brexpiprazole if you notice any deterioration or damage to the outer packaging.
  • Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
