Nebivolol 5mg tablet
What Nebivolol is used for:
- Nebivolol is a beta-adrenergic blocking agent indicated for the treatment of hypertension| to lower blood pressure.
- Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events| primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.
Do not take Nebivolol if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to Nebivolol
- Severe bradycardia
- Heart block greater than first degree
- Cardiogenic shock
- Decompensated cardiac failure
- Sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place)
- Hepatic impairment
Warnings & Precautions:
- Acute exacerbation of coronary artery disease upon cessation of therapy: Do not abruptly discontinue.
- Diabetes: Monitor glucose as β-blockers may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Possible Side Effects:

Other medicines and Nebivolol:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take| including prescription and over-the-counter medicines| vitamins| and herbal supplements.
- Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- CYP2D6 enzyme inhibitors (fluoxetine| bupropion| paroxetine| amiodarone) may increase nebivolol levels.
- Reserpine or clonidine may produce an excessive reduction of sympathetic activity.
- Both digitalis glycosides (digoxin| digitoxin) and β-blockers slow atrioventricular conduction and decrease heart rate. Concomitant use can increase the risk of bradycardia.
- Verapamil- or diltiazem-type calcium channel blockers may cause excessive reductions in heart rate| blood pressure| and cardiac contractility.
- Antacids (e.g. cimetidine)| are used to treat excessive stomach acid. If you are being treated for excessive stomach acid| you should take nebivolol during a meal| and the antacid drug between meals.
- Asthma medications| medications for the blocked nose (e.g. pseudoephedrine) or for certain eye disorders such as glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or dilation of the pupil.
How to take Nebivolol:
- For hypertension: Adults above 18 years old: the recommended dose is 5mg once daily.
- For chronic heart failure: Adults above 18 years old: the recommended initial dose is 1.25mg daily. This may be increased after 1-2 weeks to half a tablet daily (2.5mg) and then to 1 tablet daily (5mg). This may be further increased to a maximum recommended dose of 2 tablets daily (10mg).
- You can take it with or without food.
- If you want to increase the dose for further reduction in blood pressure wait 2 weeks interval.
- If renal or hepatic impairment stating dose is 2.5mg.
How to store Nebivolol:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store Nebivolol between 68° to 77°F (20° - 25°C).
- Safely throw away Nebivolol that is out of date or no longer needed.
