Ibandronic acid 150 mg tablets
What Ibandronic acid is used for :
• Ibandronic acid is used to treat osteoporosis, a condition where the bones are brittle, in women after menopause.
• It may lower the chances of having bone fractures (breaking bones).
Do not take Ibandronic acid :
• If you’re allergic to the active substance or any other component of this medicine.
• If you have or previously had low calcium levels.
• If you have problems with your esophagus (swallowing tube) (for the tablets).
• If you can’t stand or sit upright for at least one hour (for the tablets).
Warnings and precautions :
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
• If you have any problems with your mouth, teeth or gum or a planned tooth extraction.
• If you are a smoker (as this may increase the risk of dental problems).
• If you have previously been treated with a bisphosphonate.
• If you are taking medicines called corticosteroids (such as prednisone).
• If you have any swallowing or digestive problems.
• If you have a vitamin D deficiency.
• If you have kidney problems.
• If you have cancer.
Possible side effects :
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Serious side effects:
• Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) (bone damage in the jaw)
• Inflammation and ulceration of the esophagus (swallowing tube)
• Allergic reactions
• Eye problems
Other Medicines and Ibandronic acid :
• Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
• Acetylsalicylic acid, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids may increase the stomach irritation caused by Ibandronic acid.
• Supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron or aluminium, could possibly influence the effects of Ibandronic acid.
• After taking Ibandronic acid tablet, wait for 1 hour before taking any other medication, including indigestion tablets, calcium supplements, or vitamins.
• After taking Ibandronic acid tablet, wait for 1 hour before eating or drinking.
How to take Ibandronic acid :
• This medicine is for post-menopausal women only.
• Take as indicated by your doctor.
• Do not take Ibandronic acid with food.
• Swallow your tablet whole with a full glass of water (at least 180 ml).
• For the next hour after taking Ibandronic acid tablet, do not lie down. Sit upright or stand.
• The injection is given into the vein by a doctor.
• Take one 150 mg tablet once a month, on the same day of each month.
• The injection is given as one vial (3mg) once every 3 months.
How to store Ibandronic acid :
• Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
• Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
• The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
*Dosage form and route of administration of Ibandronic acid 3 mg solution for injection should be prescribed according to therapeutic indication and disease severity of each individual patient.
