Warnings And Precautions:
- Celecoxib can increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, even without risk factors, and should not be used before or after heart bypass surgery (CABG).
- It may cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal, especially in older adults, and should not be taken if there is existing stomach or intestinal bleeding.
- Do not use if allergic to celecoxib, sulfa drugs, or if there is a history of asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID.
- Inform the doctor of history of stomach ulcer, bleeding, heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, bleeding problems, liver or kidney disease, smoking, or alcohol use.
- Avoid during the last 20 weeks of pregnancy due to risks to the unborn baby and possible pregnancy complications; it may affect fertility in women and is not safe for breastfeeding without medical advice.
- Do not give to children without medical advice. Avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDs, and drinking alcohol, as they may increase stomach bleeding risk. Check with a doctor before using other pain, fever, swelling, or cold/flu medicines, as they may contain similar ingredients. Side effects include allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, face/throat swelling), severe skin reactions (fever, sore throat, skin pain, red/purple rash with blistering), heart attack or stroke signs (chest pain, numbness, weakness, slurred speech, leg swelling, shortness of breath), stomach bleeding signs (bloody/tarry stools, coughing blood, coffee ground vomit), liver problems (nausea, upper right stomach pain, itching, tiredness, dark urine, jaundice), kidney problems (little/no urination, swelling, tiredness), and anemia (pale skin, unusual tiredness, light-headedness, cold hands/feet). Celecoxib may interact with antidepressants, steroids, blood clot medicines, and other prescription/over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal products; consult a doctor for potential interactions.
