About Product

Product Overview:

  • Wegovy (Semaglutide ) is a prescription GLP-1 medication used for weight loss and weight management, type 2 diabetes treatment, or to reduce the risk of chronic kidney disease and major cardiovascular events in certain patients with type 2 diabetes. Semaglutide (Wegovy) is also used to treat metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), without cirrhosis of the liver.

  • Semaglutide injections are self-administered once weekly as an injection under the skin, and semaglutide pills are taken once daily.

How it works?:

  • Wegovy works for weight loss by reducing appetite and slowing down the movement of food through your body. Weight loss from Wegovy can lead to improved cardiovascular risk factors, such as decreased blood pressure, improved cholesterol levels, and better control of blood sugar. In people with MASH, fat builds up in the liver causing inflammation. Weight loss helps reduce fat in the liver, potentially reducing inflammation and scarring.

Benefits:

  • Weight loss in people who have obesity or who are overweight and have other health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol

  • To lower the risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death) in people who have heart disease and are either overweight or obese

  • A liver disease called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), which was previously called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) (injection only)

Directions for Use:

  • Wegovy is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

Cautions & Warnings:

  • Semaglutide has a boxed warning for the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. A boxed warning is the strongest safety-related warning issued by the FDA. Semaglutide may cause serious side effects, including possible thyroid tumors and thyroid cancer.

Pregnancy Warnings:

  • It is not known if or how Wegovy could affect pregnancy or harm a fetus. Tell your health care provider if you are or plan to become pregnant. They may suggest that you stop using Wegovy at least 2 months before you plan to become pregnant. You can register for the Wegovy Pregnancy Registry by calling 877-390-2760 or at wegovypregnancyregistry.com. This registry collects information about the use of Wegovy during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding Warnings:

  • It is not known if semaglutide (the active medicine in Wegovy) passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Wegovy tablets because the tablets contain an ingredient called SNAC that passes into breast milk and may cause serious side effects in a breastfed baby. Wegovy injections do not contain SNAC. Tell your health care provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Storage:

  • Wegovy injection pens should be stored in their original carton in the refrigerator, between 36 F and 46 F (2 C and 8 C). Unopened Wegovy can be stored in the refrigerator until the expiration date. If needed, as long as the cap has not been removed, Wegovy can be stored at higher temperatures, between 46 F and 86 F (8 C and 30 C), for up to 28 days. Store in a place that is not exposed to direct light and heat. Do not freeze.

FAQ:

  • Q. What happens if I miss a dose?

  • A. Use the medicine as soon as you can and then go back to your regular schedule. If your next dose is due in less than 2 days (48 hours), skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Call your doctor if you miss more than 2 doses in a row of Wegovy injection. You may need to restart the medicine at a lower dose to avoid stomach problems.

  • Q. What should I tell my health care provider before using Wegovy?

  • A. Tell your health care provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them know if Wegovy is right for you.

  • Q. Does Wegovy interact with foods or drinks?

  • A. Take Wegovy tablets on an empty stomach in the morning with up to four ounces of plain water. Do not take with drinks other than water. Wait at least 30 minutes after taking your dose to eat, drink, or take other medicines by mouth.

  • Wegovy injection may be given with or without food.

  • It is unknown if drinking alcohol will affect Wegovy. The risk of dizziness, nausea, or other side effects may be increased if you drink alcohol while using Wegovy.

  • Q. What other drugs will affect semaglutide?

  • A. Semaglutide can slow your digestion, and it may take longer for your body to absorb any medicines you take by mouth.

  • Tell your doctor about all your other medicines, especially insulin or other diabetes medicines, such as dulaglutide, exenatide, liraglutide, Byetta, Trulicity, Victoza, and others.
  • Other drugs may affect semaglutide, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you use.
