Product Description

Abroten Film-Coated Tablets contain abiraterone acetate, a medicine used in adult men for the treatment of prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It works by reducing the production of testosterone in the body, which may help slow the growth of prostate cancer.

Abroten is used under medical supervision and is usually prescribed together with prednisone or prednisolone.

Uses

Abroten Film-Coated Tablets are used for:

• Treatment of metastatic prostate cancer in adult men


• Use in patients whose disease is still responding to hormone therapy


• Use together with androgen deprivation therapy when prescribed by the doctor

How to Use

• Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.


• Take Abroten by mouth.


• Take it on an empty stomach.


• It should be taken at least 2 hours after eating, and no food should be eaten for at least 1 hour after taking it.


• Swallow the tablets whole with water.


• Do not break the tablets.


• Abroten is usually taken together with prednisone or prednisolone exactly as prescribed by the doctor.

Warnings and Precautions

Before taking Abroten, talk to your doctor if you:

• Have liver problems


• Have high blood pressure


• Have heart failure or heart rhythm problems


• Have low blood potassium


• Have diabetes or high blood sugar


• Have swelling in the feet, ankles, or legs


• Have gained weight rapidly


• Have shortness of breath

Important notes:

• This medicine is for male patients only


• It must not be used by women, especially during pregnancy


• It must not be taken with food


• Regular blood tests may be needed to monitor liver function


• Do not use with Ra-223 unless your doctor advises appropriately

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Abroten may cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common side effects

• Swelling in legs or feet


• Low potassium levels in the blood


• Increased liver function test results


• High blood pressure


• Urinary tract infection


• Diarrhea

Common side effects

• High fat levels in the blood


• Chest pain


• Irregular heartbeat


• Heart failure


• Fast heart rate


• Severe infection (sepsis)


• Bone fractures


• Indigestion


• Blood in urine


• Rash

Less common or serious side effects

• Adrenal gland problems


• Abnormal heart rhythm


• Muscle weakness or muscle pain


• Lung irritation


• Liver failure


• Heart attack


• Severe allergic reactions

Seek medical help immediately if you notice:

• Muscle weakness


• Muscle twitching


• Palpitations
  These may be signs of low potassium levels.

Storage

• Keep out of the sight and reach of children


• Do not use after the expiry date


• This medicine does not require any special storage conditions


• Do not dispose of medicines in household waste or wastewater; ask your pharmacist how to dispose of them properly
