Product Description
Adempas contains the active ingredient riociguat, which helps relax and widen the blood vessels in the lungs, improving blood flow and reducing the workload on the heart. It is used to treat certain types of pulmonary hypertension.
Indications: Who is it for?
Adempas is indicated for adults with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) that cannot be treated surgically or persists after surgery, and for adults with certain types of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression.
How to use
Take Adempas exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The tablets are taken three times daily, approximately 6 to 8 hours apart, with or without food. If you have difficulty swallowing, the tablet may be crushed and mixed with water or soft food immediately before use.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended starting dose is 1 mg three times daily for the first 2 weeks. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose every 2 weeks up to a maximum of 2.5 mg three times daily (7.5 mg/day), depending on your response and blood pressure.
Warnings & Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have recently experienced lung bleeding, low blood pressure, heart, kidney, or liver problems, or if you are taking anticoagulants or certain antifungal or HIV medicines. Do not use Adempas during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Smoking may reduce the effectiveness of this medicine. Regular blood pressure monitoring is required during treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, indigestion, swelling of the limbs, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, nosebleeds, stomach pain, constipation, and anemia. Serious lung bleeding or coughing up blood may occur and requires immediate medical attention.
Contraindications
Do not take Adempas if you are allergic to riociguat or any of its ingredients, if you are pregnant, or if you are taking nitrates, nitric oxide donors, other soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators, or PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil or tadalafil.
