Product Description
Clodreb contains cladribine, a cytotoxic medicine that mainly acts on lymphocytes involved in the immune system. It is used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults and has been shown to reduce flare-ups of symptoms and slow the progression of disability.
Indications: Who is it for?
Clodreb is used to treat multiple sclerosis in adults. It is not recommended for patients under 18 years of age.
How to use
Take Clodreb exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole without chewing, at approximately the same time each day. They may be taken with or between meals. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the tablets.
Dosage & Administration
Treatment consists of two courses given over two years. Each course consists of two treatment weeks, one month apart. Depending on body weight, the prescribed dose is 1 or 2 tablets per day for 4 or 5 days during each treatment week. A blood test is performed before starting each treatment course to check lymphocyte levels.
Warnings & Precautions
Blood tests are required before, during, and after treatment. Tell your doctor if you have infections, liver problems, or if you have recently received vaccinations. Clodreb may increase the risk of infections, including shingles, and liver problems. Effective contraception is required during treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose.
Possible Side Effects
Very common side effects include lymphopenia and shingles. Uncommon side effects include liver problems. Common side effects include cold sores, rash, hair loss, and reduced levels of certain white blood cells. Very rare side effects include allergic reactions and tuberculosis.
Drug Interactions
Clodreb should not be taken with medicines that weaken the immune system or reduce blood cell production unless specifically advised by a doctor. Other MS medicines should not be used together with Clodreb unless specifically advised. A gap of at least 3 hours should be left between Clodreb and other medicines taken by mouth.
Contraindications
Do not take Clodreb if you are allergic to cladribine or any of its ingredients, are HIV positive, have active tuberculosis or hepatitis, have a weakened immune system, have active cancer, have moderate or severe kidney problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
