Empamac contains empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood sugar by helping the kidneys remove glucose through the urine. It is also used to help treat heart failure and chronic kidney disease in adults.
Indications: Who is it for?
Used in adults aged 18 years and older with type 2 diabetes, heart failure with symptoms due to impaired heart function, or chronic kidney disease.
How to Use
Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. It can be taken at any time of the day, preferably at the same time each day.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended dose is 10 mg once daily. For type 2 diabetes, the doctor may increase the dose to 25 mg once daily if needed. The dose may be limited to 10 mg once daily in patients with kidney problems.
Warnings & Precautions
Do not use in type 1 diabetes. Talk to your doctor if you have serious kidney or liver problems or are at risk of dehydration. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms of ketoacidosis or a serious genital infection occur. Kidney function should be checked before and during treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Very common side effects include low blood sugar when used with certain diabetes medicines and dehydration. Other side effects include genital yeast infections, increased urination, itching, rash, thirst, constipation, and increased blood cholesterol. Rarely, serious genital infections may occur.
Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor if you take diuretics, insulin, sulphonylureas, lithium, or any other medicines. Empamac may increase the risk of dehydration or low blood sugar when used with certain medicines.
