About Product

Product Overview:

  • Urago (Febuxostat) is used to lower uric acid levels in people with gout. It works by reducing the amount of uric acid the body makes, which helps prevent future gout flares. When you first start taking febuxostat, you may have more gout flares for a short time before they become less common. Other common side effects include nausea, rash, and changes in liver test results. Febuxostat may increase the risk of heart-related death in some people, so it is usually used only when another medicine called allopurinol did not work well or is not a safe option. This product contains 30 Blister Tablets.

Key Features:

  • Febuxostat reduces the production of uric acid in your body. A build-up of uric acid can cause gout symptoms.

  • Febuxostat is used to keep uric acid levels from getting to high in people with gout.

  • Febuxostat is for use only in people who cannot take another medicine called allopurinol, or when allopurinol has stopped working.

How it Works:

  • Febuxostat works by reducing how much uric acid is made in your body. If uric acid levels get too high, crystals can form in your joints and cause inflammation and pain (gout flares). By reducing the levels of uric acid, febuxostat helps prevent gout flares.

Benefits:

  • Febuxostat is commonly used for gout, which is a form of arthritis caused by too much uric acid in your blood and joints. Febuxostat may be used when another medicine for gout, allopurinol, cannot be safely used or has not worked well enough.

  • Febuxostat may also be used for other conditions as determined by your health care provider.

Directions for Use:

  • When you start using the drug, the severity of the symptoms may increase at first, so it is recommended to use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or colchicine to relieve the symptoms.

  • Initial dose: 40 mg once daily.

  • Maintenance dose: Continue the 40 mg dose, or increase the dose to 80 mg once daily, two weeks after the start of treatment, if the uric acid level does not fall below 6 mg/dL.

Active Ingredients:

  • Febuxostat 80 mg

Side Effects:

While less common, the most serious side effects of febuxostat are described below, along with what to do if they happen.

  • Heart-Related Death. Febuxostat may increase your risk of heart-related death compared to another medicine for gout, allopurinol. This risk was seen in people with heart disease. Get emergency help if you have any of the following symptoms.

  • Chest pain or pressure

  • Fast or abnormal heartbeat

  • Trouble breathing

  • Pain in your back, jaw, throat, or arm

  • Sweating, upset stomach, vomiting, or dizziness

  • Sudden and severe headache

  • Numbness or weakness on one side of your body

  • Slurring of speech

  • Sudden blurry vision

  • Gout Flares. Febuxostat may increase your gout flares before making your symptoms better. It may take several months to reduce uric acid levels enough to control your gout flares. It is very important to follow your health care provider’s recommendations, which may include taking medicine for pain and inflammation while taking febuxostat, and drinking enough fluids.
