Product Overview:

• Vaprena (Tolvaptan) 10 tablets is used to slow the decline in kidney function in adults who have autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.


• Tolvaptan is available only under a special program. You must be registered in the program and understand the risks and benefits of tolvaptan.


• Tolvaptan is used to treat adults with hyponatremia (low levels of sodium in your blood) in people with heart failure, and certain hormonal imbalances.

How It Works:

• Tolvaptan blocks a substance in the body called vasopressin from binding to the vasopressin V2-receptor in the kidneys. When this receptor is blocked, the body gets rid of more water through the urine. This decreases the total amount of water in the body and increases sodium levels.

Benefits:

• Tolvaptan is commonly used to treat low sodium levels (hyponatremia).


• Tolvaptan may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.


• A different form of tolvaptan can be used to treat a certain type of kidney condition called autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).

Directions for Use:

• Drink plenty of fluids while taking tolvaptan, but do not drink grapefruit juice or alcoholic drinks.
• You may take tolvaptan with or without food.

Storage:

• Tolvaptan should be stored at room temperature, between 68 F to 77 F (20 C to 25 C). It can be exposed to temperatures between 59 F to 86 F (15 C to 30 C) for shorter periods of time, such as when transporting it. Store in a cool, dry place.

• Q . Does tolvaptan interact with foods or drinks?


• A . You should not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking tolvaptan. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice can cause a dangerous increase in the blood levels of tolvaptan.


• It is unknown if drinking alcohol will affect tolvaptan. The risk of dehydration may be increased if you drink alcohol while taking tolvaptan.
