Xadago contains the active substance safinamide, which helps increase dopamine levels in the brain to improve movement control in patients with Parkinson’s disease. It is used as an add-on treatment to levodopa, with or without other Parkinson’s medicines, in adults experiencing motor fluctuations.
Indications: Who is it for?
Xadago is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease in adults with mid- to late-stage disease experiencing "ON-OFF" fluctuations while receiving levodopa therapy.
How to use
Take Xadago exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, preferably in the morning.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended starting dose is 50 mg once daily, which may be increased to 100 mg once daily based on your doctor's assessment. Patients with moderate liver impairment should not exceed 50 mg daily.
Warnings & Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or are taking other medicines. Xadago may cause dizziness, drowsiness, involuntary movements, or compulsive behaviors. It is not recommended for children under 18 years of age and should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include insomnia, dizziness, headache, nausea, sleepiness, worsening of Parkinson’s disease, low blood pressure when standing, and falls.
Drug Interactions
Do not use Xadago with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or pethidine. Tell your doctor if you are taking antidepressants, cough and cold medicines, antibiotics, diabetes medicines, or other Parkinson’s medications.
Contraindications
Do not use Xadago if you are allergic to safinamide, have severe liver disease, certain retinal disorders, or are taking MAO inhibitors or pethidine.
